Come to join us for a dynamic conversation with Rene Orellana, who is the head of the Bolivian delegation in the Rio+20 negotiations that are taking place right now. He is also the lead Bolivian negotiator on climate issues and would like to connect with local activists in NYC to discuss the importance of Rio+20 as it relates to climate change and what is at stake.

René Orellana Halkyer was born in Cochabamba, Bolivia July 20, 1969. He obtained his degree in Sociology at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón Cochabamba and his Ph.D. in the field of legal anthropology at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He has served as Vice Minister of Basic Services, Minister of Environment and Water, and Head of the Delegation of Bolivia to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change and Sustainable Development. He is a university professor in environmental issues, water management, sociology, and legal anthropology. He works with social movements of Indigenous peoples, peasants, and urban populations. He has published different papers and reports on environmental issues, as well as several books.
