Food Sovereignty Tour + Agroecology Short Course in Venezuela – July 19-Aug.2

Food Sovereignty, Social Movements and Social Change

July 19 to August 2, 2010

Please register asap!

You are invited to participate in a two week study tour to study food sovereignty, social movements and social change in Venezuela, 19 July to 2 August, 2010. The tour will examine issues of land reform, urbanization issues, rural development and food sovereignty within a dynamic political context. Venezuela is an outstanding example of a country that strives to ensure its citizens’ right to food while bolstering its domestic agriculture sector, with an emphasis on organic practices and agroecology. We will also explore other areas of social transformation, including education, healthcare, and direct citizen participation in the political process.

Activities will include visits to social programs, farms, community sites, and media outlets (with opportunities for radio and TV appearances); meetings with farmers, community leaders, and government officials; and trips to beaches, parks, and other sites of interest.  This trip will also include a short course in agroecology in the countryside featuring field visits and hands-on activities.

Cost to participate in the delegation: $1,100

This covers 2 very full weeks of:

  • All ground transportation
  • All lodging, which will consist of shared hotel rooms
  • Most meals (approximately 3/4 of all meals)
  • Qualified trip leaders
  • A Spanish-English translator
  • Introductory information about the study tour and Venezuela.
